Health and Safety Procedures

We all play a part in the health and safety of our community.

As a condition of making a reservation, guests attest that they are free of COVID-19 symptoms and exposures.

A complimentary disposable mask will be provided to guests upon request.

Health Concerns

Our service staff training allows for swift response when reporting any guest or staff presumed cases of COVID-19 to management.  If alerted of a positive COVID-19 case at the Castle, our response follows CDC guidelines.

Medical Services:  Should an employee or guest express any health concerns; they will be referred to an area healthcare facility for testing and treatment as appropriate.

Sanitizing:  Hand sanitizing stations have been placed in all public spaces and entrances.

Social Distancing:  The installation of partitions throughout the Great Hall provides an extra level of precaution for guests and employees.  Staff will provide service at the table with appropriate personal protective equipment.

Staffing Capacity:  Management determines staffing based on business levels while ensuring the highest standards of service.  We are developing service delivery options for guests who want to minimize social interaction.

Employee Practices

Hand washing:  Proper hygiene and frequent handwashing are vital to combat the spread of COVID-19.  All employees have been instructed to wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after using the restroom, blowing their nose, coughing or sneezing; before and after eating, going on break and starting a shift.  In addition, employees use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 70% alcohol.  Sanitizing stations are available throughout the Castle.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):  Employees wear appropriate PPE based on their role and responsibilities, and in adherence with state and local regulations and guidelines.  Training on how to properly use and dispose of all PPE has been provided.  Every employee has been issued multiple facial coverings and is required to wear them as appropriate.  The Castle provides the laundering of all PPE at a high temperature in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Cleaning Products:  A variety of EPA-approved, anti-microbial and surface disinfectants, which include hydrogen peroxide, alcohol and bleach-based solutions are utilized.  These cleaners meet CDC guidelines for use against viruses (such as COVID-19), bacteria and other airborne and bloodborne pathogens.

High Touch Items:  Point of sale equipment, tables, chairs, menus, pens and check presenters are cleaned and disinfected after each customer use.

Partitions:  The Great Hall has partitions to create a semi-private dining experience.

Mezzanine Level and Wine Cellar Space:  Tables, chairs and all high touch areas are cleaned and disinfected between each party.

Al Fresco Dining:  The terrace is available for outside dining when the weather permits.  Outside tables and chairs are disinfected in the same manner as the inside dining space.

Food and Beverage Services

Wandering Vine at the Castle established elevated food safety standards prior to COVID-19.  We are owned and operated by a Retired Health Care Executive and Registered Nurse so health and safety is always a priority We have achieved the “Trusted Table” designation from the Kansas Restaurant Association, which means that there is someone on site at all times who is certified in food safety practices.

Our restaurant provides a la carte meals.  As an example, condiments and sugar options are served in single use containers.  After each use laminated menus are disinfected.  Check presenters and pens are cleaned and disinfected as well.

We follow the FDA’s Food Code recommendations for hand washing and disposable glove use in all food service areas.

Food Safety:  We employ enhanced guidelines for hygiene and disinfecting as well as provide training for all food service employees.  All Food and Beverage Managers are Serv-Safe certified and are required to conduct inspections using Wandering Vine’s food safety standards as guidelines.

We have reduced seating capacity to allow for social distancing, we have invested in the design and development of room partitions within the Great Hall.

Cocktail garnishes are prepared in advance and handled like any other food product.

If patrons share a menu item, they are provided with individual tongs to serve themselves from the shared plate to prevent cross-contamination.
